Former U.S. vice-president Joe Biden said Thursday he had asked former president Barack Obama “not to endorse” him at this time, saying the person who wins the nomination for the Democrats should do so on their “own merits.”
Biden enters an already crowded Democratic race, with almost 20 other candidates for the nomination, but current polls show him at the front of the race in the early primaries.
Biden served as Obama’s vice-president from 2009 until the end of his second term in 2017.
