Hillary Clinton dredges up old Rudy Giuliani gaffe days after he joins Trump’s legal team
Hillary Clinton opened up old wounds in regards to former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani on Saturday over his claim that he didn’t remember her work in the aftermath of Sept. 11 attacks.
“He may not remember, but I’ll never forget that day or the years after working as Senator to keep NY safe and helping our First Responders,” Clinton tweeted on Saturday.
Clinton’s jab at the Republican firebrand comes only a couple days after he joined President Trump’s legal team to help with matter related to special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russian investigation.
Clinton’s tweet was response to a one from Nick Merrill, her communications director, who had tweeted, “Why does Rudy keep lying? Even after photos plainly prove he is. We emerged from 9/11 because the country came together to reject evil. Lying about that day 16 years later flies in the face of what makes us fundamentally great as a nation.”
During the 2016 campaign, Giuliani, a longtime Republican and Trump campaign surrogate, alleged that Clinton, a former senator from New York, lied about being in New York on Sept. 11, 2001. He quickly took back the allegation after it was revealed that she had never claimed to be in her home state at the time because she was in Washington, D.C. that day.
Pictures of Giuliani alongside Clinton on Sept. 12 at Ground Zero emerged in the wake of these allegations. Responding to the photo and the accompanying criticism, Giuliani said, “I probably deserve it.”
