Democrat Rep. and presidential candidate Eric Swalwell has made it known that he would like to outlaw certain guns and accompany that with a mandatory buy-back (aka “confiscation”) with the punishment of prison for those refusing to comply. Democrats are now attempting to out-do each other, and that’s why Sen. Cory Booker has announced his gun control plan: — Philip Wegmann @PhilipWegmann: “Cory Booker announces new gun plan that would require every firearm owner to be licensed by the federal government.” https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D54VfM9XkAAinBT.jpg — POLITICO @politico: “Sen. Cory Booker is rolling out a sweeping gun control agenda that includes requiring licenses for all gun owners, as well as more standard proposals such as universal background checks and banning assault weapons.” https://www.politico.com/story/2019/05/06/cory-booker-gun-control-1303103
Vox of course considers Booker’s plan “ambitious”: — Vox @voxdotcom: “Cory Booker now has the most ambitious gun control proposal of any 2020 candidate.” https://www.vox.com/future-perfect/2019/5/6/18528472/cory-booker-gun-control-licensing-plan-policy — But as always the question must be asked: What happens to those who refuse to comply? Booker refused to answer: — Mikhael Smits @mikhaelsmits: “Cory Booker won’t say whether he’ll jail Americans who refuse to surrender firearms they lawfully purchased if he’s president.” — If Booker’s president it sounds like Americans exercising their 2nd Amendment rights would be at King Cory’s mercy when it comes to jail time. — Robert Woolley @RandomlyBob: “That was a yes, without saying yes.” — SwampCrazyElaine @Erunner110: “Which means YES. He will jail them.” — Booker said people would have a “reasonable period” of time to turn in certain guns, so it isn’t a stretch to assume that those Spartacus deems “unreasonable” would be arrested.
Cam Edwards @CamEdwards: “Will he attempt to jail Americans who refuse to get a federal license to own a firearm? Keep in mind, there are around 90-million legal gun owners. Right now the federal prison population is a little more than 200,000, of which about 30,000 are in for weapons offenses.” — Corie Whalen @CorieWhalen: “Surely *this* iteration of the police state won’t unlawfully target people of color and the economically disadvantaged. 🙄” — Bob ن @BobHicks_: “”We’re not coming for your guns”.” — No, not at all! — JWF @JammieWF: “Won’t matter since this clown has zero shot of ever being POTUS.” — Stephen Gutowski @StephenGutowski: “Are there any Democrats running for president who are willing to say they DON’T want to jail lawful gun owners?” — #Crickets — MarkMizzou 🥃🏌🏼♂️🇺🇸🏝 @MMS5833: “It’s almost like Booker and his lot literally try to find the issues that most won’t give them any shot at victory and hitch their wagon to them. Good luck with this one Spartacus.”
It’s amazing to watch what Democrat candidates think is necessary to shore up support among the Dem base, and it speaks volumes.
Twitchy: Good news! Eric Swalwell no longer wants to nuke defiant ‘assault weapon’ owners (just throw them in prison instead)
